Big Bang: The Origin of the Universe, Simon Singh, Fourth Estate, New York 2004.This is an excellent historical retracing of the battle between the Steady State Theory of Cosmology and the development and eventual triumph of the Big Bang Theory. It also explains what each theory predicts and the Universe it describes.
The Creator and the Cosmos, Hugh Ross, Nav Press, Colorado Springs, 2001. A very readable explanation of current astronomical discoveries and the fine-tuning of the Universe. Dr. Ross uses a style of writing that uses examples from daily experience to bring abstract concepts into focus.
The Case for a Creator, Lee Strobel, Zondervan Publishing, Grand Rapids 2004.Strobel relates that as student he lost his faith through an onslaught of scientific "data". It was only as an adult that . Strobel interviews scientists to relate compelling evidence for intelligent design from the fields of cosmology, physics, astronomy, biochemistry. A very readable compendium that has also been made available with a study guide for small group study to be combined with the DVD.
Darwin’s Black Box, The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution, Michael J. Behe,The Free Press, New York, 1996.This book is exactly what it claims, a biochemical challenge to Darwin’s theory of evolution. Behe proposes the concept of irreducible complexity. Darwin said that if it could be shown that there were organisms or structures in nature that could not be achieved through gradual step-wise means that his theory would be proven false. Behe provides multiple examples from microbiology which meet Darwin’s criterion to falsify the theory of evolution.
Darwin’s Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design: Stephen C. Meyer, Harper Collins, New York, 2013.Meyer reviews Darwin’s problem of trying to explain the Cambrian explosion (i.e., Darwin’s doubt). The following 150 years have made the problem only more intractable. There are no transitional animals, evolutionists efforts to explain away the lack of fossils and the sudden appearance of animal phyla is an explosive truth.
Darwin on Trial, Philip Johnson, Intervarsity Press, Downers Grove Illinois, 1991.Johnson is a lawyer and if you want a no holds barred analysis of the logical flaws of evolution and Darwin’s science this is it.
Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, Micheal Denton, Adler and Adler Pub. Chevy Chase Maryland:1985.One of the first books to challenge the science of neo-Darwinism. Dr. Denton, a microbiologist, carefully works through the basic assumptions of Darwinism and exposes the flaws. This is The book that many scientists including Michael Behe point to as the powerful information that started them on questioning the validity of the science - as presented by the secular worldview.
Evolution:Still a Theory in Crisis, Michael Denton, Discovery Institute, 2016. More than thirty years after his landmark book Evolution a Theory in Crisis Dr. Denton has revisted his original thesis. Calling upon contemporary research in Evo Devo he cites the origin of life, the origin of language, as well as the multiple applications of the pentadacyyl template as examples of Darwinian evolution's failure. The continued absence of transitional forms remains a great weakness in the evolutionary effort to explain the history of life. Denton extends his thesis by pointing to the the very exuberance of life. would not - Nonadpative order that cannot be explained by Darwinian evolution.
Explore Evolution The Arguments for and Against neo-Darwinism: Stephen C. Meyer, Paul A. Nelson, et al. Hill House Pub. Melbourn 2013.
This text is easily accessible. It is a clear presentation of Neo-Darwinian concepts and the data that argues against it. Good place to start and get the definitions and parameters of the debate.
Guide to Understanding Creation – Holman Quick Source Mark Whorton & Hill Roberts, Holman Publishing, Nashville Tenn. 2004.This book surveys every major issue relating to theology and the science of creation. The book explains the scientific evidence that the universe was created and designed by God. Whorton and Roberts provide discussions of the compatibility of Genesis with modern science.
Icons of Evolution Science or Myth? Jonathan Wells, Regnery Publishing, Washington D.C. 2000.A very telling book which debunks frauds, bad science, and makes the process readable. The Miller-Urey Experiment, Haeckel’s Embryo’s, Peppered moths and Darwin’s finches are just some of the Icons that are examined.
Just 6 Numbers, Martin Rees, Basic Books, New York 2000. This small text is a seminal work on the fundamental physics of the Universe. It clearly describes the razor's edge of creation.
The Magic Furnace: The Search for the Origin of Atoms. Marcus Chown, Vintage Press, London, 1999. A very interesting read – it treats the search as a great detective story. A clear introduction to the physics and astronomy underlining creation.
Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off. Fazale Rana and Hugh Ross, Nav Press, Colorado Springs, 2004.Dr. Rana and Dr. Ross present a scientific model for the creation of the first life on Earth – based on the Bible. A very thorough debunking of the Darwinist view.
The Privileged Planet, Guillermo Gonzales and Jay W. Richards, Regnery Publishing, Washington D.C., 2004.Particularly strong sections on the Copernican Principle. I found it easier to read the second half of the book first which is the historical section and then dive into the technical section, which the authors - as scientists put first.
Rare Earth, Peter D. Ward and Donald Brownlee, Copernicus Publishing, New York, 2000. Extremely readable and thorough introduction to Habitable Zones in the Galaxy and the Solar System. It does an excellent job of taking on many of the urban myths that fill casual conversations.
Signature in the Cell – DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design, Stephen C. Meyer; Harper One, New York 2009.A very thorough presentation of the problems that Darwinian concepts have in creating life using on natural selection and mutation. Dr. Meyer is powerfully presents the evidence for DNA- digital code - as information. The origin of life and biological complexity is no longer a chemical question but one of where did the information come from.
The Soul of Science, Nancy R. Pearcey and Charles B. Thaxton; Crossway Books, Wheaton Illinois, 1994.For years we have been told that Christianity was anti- science (aka Galileo). This clearly and articulately demonstrates how the flowering of modern science is rooted in the Judeo-Christian worldview.
Total Truth, Liberating Christianity From Its Cultural Captivity, Nancy Pearcey, Crossway Books, Wheaton Illinois, 2004.This book has powerful information and insightful analysis. Nancy Pearcey combines apologetics, worldview analysis, social commentary with a historical perspective. Its not a quick read but it is well worth the effort.
When a Nation Forgets God: 7 Lessons We Must Learn From Nazi Germany : Erwin Lutzer. Moody Publishers, Chicago, 2010.
The title outlines the chilling premise. This short book warns us “That which is Legal Might also be Evil” and “Parents – Not the State – are Responsible for a Child’s Training.” The parallel to America is unmistakable.
